Here's our list of awesome outdoor activities. Some we have done & some we want to do.
Take your little or grown ones outside!
This makes for a hay ride and fun apple picking kind of afternoon in a beautiful setting. Hit the awesome market afterwards for fresh and delicious treats.
There are some great hikes within 20-30 minutes of downtown. We use AllTrails to research & map them. A few of our faves:
-Long Branch Falls & Fall Branch Falls
-Project Chimps Trail (yep monkeys howling on your hike - super cool)
-Gem mining - a go to when our kids were younger
-Tubing down the River
-Freedom Trail Bike
-Downtown Playground
-Kayak & pontooning on the Lake
-White water rafting on the home of the 1996 Olympic rafting site
-Take the train to the TN/GA border for some exploring and good eats.
-Blue Ridge Aerial Adventure Park - for adrenaline seekers & close to town.
-Zipline Canopy Tours - our family has loved this adventure zipping high.
- TankTown ("Drive Tanks, Crush Cars"). This one is on our list.
More adventurous / more fun in serene settings
It's not our thing but I continue to hear about the growing opportunities to do some epic biking up and down the mountain.
Old Toccoa Farm boast the best course in the area and is minutes from downtown but maintains a private, idyllic setting and has raised the bar in terms of a private club and is on par with many long established clubs in Highlands and Cashiers, NC.
The Benton MacKaye trail is the start of the Appalachian Trail on Springer Mountain and is an important place for serious hikers.
Set up shop on the banks of the Toccoa or do a float trip (we loved ours with Cohutta Fishing Company)
Head down to Lake Blue Ridge Marina with your cooler and rent a pontoon and chill out or go nuts with some tubing.
Noontootla Creek Farms is a little slice of wilderness paradise. A family run operation, they offer a sporting clay course (and helpful lessons), guided quail hunting and fly fishing. It's cool spot to check out.
We have so much more to explore so this is just our getting started list!
